While about 50% of visitors engage in window shopping or leisurely hangouts, others are drawn by the opportunity to escape the heat without heavy spending. College students, in particular, find malls like SGS Mall appealing for their relaxed atmosphere, complete with music and comfortable seating. The absence of pressure to make purchases distinguishes mall hangouts from traditional dining venues, offering a casual and cost-effective respite from the heat.

For many citizens without air conditioning at home or facing power cuts, malls have become a preferred destination to beat the heat. However, the surge in crowds has posed challenges for mall management in maintaining comfortable temperatures. Despite efforts to comply with energy efficiency guidelines mandating air conditioner settings at 24 degrees Celsius, overcrowding has occasionally led to discomfort among visitors.

The influx of crowds isn’t limited to malls alone; movie theaters have also experienced a rise in footfalls as patrons seek refuge from the sweltering heat. With a compelling lineup of films and the promise of a luxurious escape from the scorching temperatures, cinemas offer an enticing three-hour respite for Pune residents grappling with the intense heatwave conditions.

While malls and theaters offer temporary relief, medical professionals advise caution during peak hours to prevent heat-related illnesses. Despite the challenges posed by overcrowding, the appeal of air-conditioned spaces remains undeniable for citizens seeking solace from the blistering summer heat.
