MIDC Builds 35-Km Alternate Road Network Linking Chakan–Talegaon Industrial Belt To Pune-Nashik Highway, Set To Ease Congestion
New six-lane stretches and a 35-km corridor will link industrial zones directly to the Pune-Nashik highway, easing daily congestion.
A major traffic relief initiative is underway in Pune district as the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) pushes forward with new alternative road infrastructure connecting the fast-growing Chakan and Talegaon industrial regions.
The project aims to reduce constant congestion on the heavily burdened Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur corridor, where traffic has increased sharply due to rapid industrialisation and the growing number of vehicles moving through the belt every day.
One of the key developments is a newly constructed road outside Navlakh Umbre village in Phase I of the Talegaon Industrial Area. This concrete road is 1.7 kilometres long and has six lanes, connecting Phase I directly to Phase II.
Currently, vehicles are forced to pass through a narrow village road in Navlakh Umbre, leading to regular traffic jams. Officials said the opening of this wider stretch is expected to significantly reduce bottlenecks in the area. The estimated cost of this section is around Rs 50 crore.
Beyond Navlakh Umbre, MIDC is also developing a larger connectivity corridor running from Hyundai Chowk to Talegaon Phase II and Chakan Phase II. A four-lane concrete road has already been built in parts of this route, helping connect Chakan Phase II and Phase V more efficiently.
Another important segment extends from the Corning Company area to the Bham River, where it links directly with the Pune-Nashik highway. This stretch is around 6.5 kilometres long, with an estimated cost of Rs 105 crore.
Together, these works form part of MIDC’s larger alternative road plan, which will provide a total 35-kilometre bypass route, reducing dependence on the existing Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur road.
Key highlights of the project include:
- New six-lane road near Navlakh Umbre: 1.7 km (Rs 50 crore)
- Direct corridor from Hyundai Chowk to Chakan industrial phases
- Corning Company–Bham River link connected to Pune-Nashik highway: 6.5 km (Rs 105 crore)
- Total alternative network length: 35 km
MIDC officials said the work is progressing quickly and is expected to improve travel time, industrial logistics, and overall traffic flow across one of Pune’s busiest economic zones.
