In a recent appeal, Mahesh Landge, the MLA for Bhosari Assembly from the BJP in Pimpri-Chinchwad, has called for expedited action on the ambitious Sanvidhan Bhavan (Constitution Building) project. He suggests that if the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) cannot swiftly advance the construction despite repeated follow-ups, the project should be handed over to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Landge expressed his concerns on social media, tagging prominent political leaders, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to intervene in the matter.
The proposed Sanvidhan Bhavan aims to serve as a center for studying the Indian Constitution and the constitutions of other democratic nations. It will also focus on raising awareness about the importance of constitutional literacy. The project is envisioned as a joint effort between the PCMC and the PMRDA.
“Common citizens should be able to study the constitutions of other countries, including the Indian Constitution, which supports the world’s largest democratic system. For this purpose, Sanvidhan Bhavan has been proposed in Pimpri-Chinchwad,” Landge stated. He emphasized the need to accelerate the project, which was neglected during the Mahavikas Aghadi rule.
If the PMRDA is unable to complete Maharashtra’s first Constitution Building project, Landge has demanded that the plot should be transferred to the PCMC. In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon session, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is expected to follow up with the Urban Development Department to address this issue.
The Sanvidhan Bhavan project holds significant promise for enhancing constitutional literacy and providing a dedicated space for citizens to engage with the foundational principles of democracy. The proposed handover to the PCMC is seen as a viable solution to ensure the project’s timely completion and realization of its objectives.
