MPCB Issues Notices To 12 Stone Crusher Units In Pune And Satara For Violating NormsĀ
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued notices to 12 stone crusher units in Satara and Pune districts for failing to comply with pollution control regulations. The units have been given seven days to respond to the notices.
Most of the units under scrutiny operate in the Sanjaynagar area in Karad, Satara district, while one notice was issued to a unit in Puneās Ravet area. The violations primarily relate to the lack of necessary pollution control measures, such as absence of water sprinklers, uncovered conveyor belts, no wind-breaking walls, and lack of proper roads within the premises.
This action follows on-site inspections by board officials. It is mainly focused on non-compliance with air pollution norms. The units will have a personal hearing where they must address these compliance issues, and further action will be taken as per standard procedures.
During a 24-hour air quality monitoring at the Sanjaynagar cluster, officials noted that all units were closed, preventing the collection of accurate air quality data. The violations observed include insufficient dust control measures, such as uncovered conveyor belts, missing windbreaks, and inadequate internal road maintenance.
