Automated traffic system issues e-challan under Motor Vehicles Act after speed violation near his residence
Former India captain MS Dhoni has been fined ₹1,000 for over-speeding in Ranchi, with the incident quickly attracting attention on social media.
According to reports, Ranchi traffic police issued an e-challan after Dhoni’s vehicle was caught exceeding the speed limit by the city’s automated traffic monitoring system. The violation was recorded near his residence in Ranchi.
Officials said the challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deals with penalties for driving above the prescribed speed limit. The digital enforcement system detected the speed violation and automatically generated the penalty notice.
The incident reportedly took place when Dhoni was out in the city and was spotted picking up a takeaway parcel from a local eatery known as Maa Hotel. Soon after the challan was reported, the news began trending on social media, with fans sharing reactions online.

The development comes just days before preparations intensify for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Dhoni is expected to play a key role for Chennai Super Kings once again as the team looks to mount a strong campaign.
Recently, Dhoni was also in the news after the Jharkhand State Housing Board issued him a notice regarding the alleged misuse of a residential plot in Ranchi. Officials claimed that the property on Harmu Road, where Dhoni previously lived before shifting to his current residence on Ring Road, may have been used for commercial purposes.
