Mumbai News: Major Fire Erupts at Times Tower in Kamala Mills, No Injuries Reported
Mumbai: A significant fire broke out at the seven-storey Times Tower commercial building in the Kamala Mill compound, Lower Parel, early on Friday morning. The fire, which started around 6:30 AM, prompted a swift response from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with the fire brigade declaring it a level 2 (major) fire.
According to BMC officials, nine fire engines, along with additional firefighting vehicles, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The firefighters worked diligently to control the blaze, and no injuries have been reported so far.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but the situation was quickly brought under control due to the prompt response of emergency services. The incident has not caused any major disruptions in the area, but authorities are advising caution in and around the Kamala Mill compound.
This incident brings back memories of the tragic fire at the same Kamala Mill compound on December 29, 2017, where a fire at 1Above and Mojo’s Bistro restaurants claimed the lives of 14 people and injured several others.
Legal action followed, with 14 individuals, including restaurant owners and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, facing charges. However, in November 2020, the Mumbai sessions court discharged Kamala Mills’ owners, Ramesh Gowani and Ravi Bhandari, in connection with the 2017 blaze.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation at Times Tower, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of Friday’s fire.
