Mumbai, March 27, 2026: At a time when urban safety is a concern across the world, Mumbai continues to earn recognition as one of the safest cities, thanks to strong cooperation between citizens and law enforcement.

Speaking at the IMC Awards for Mumbai Police Personnel for Outstanding Public Service 2025–26, held at the IMC Headquarters in Churchgate, Police Commissioner Deven Bharti highlighted that the city’s safety is the result of a shared effort between the police and its people.

The event, organised by the Indian Merchants’ Chamber, honoured 70 Mumbai Police personnel, including five women, for their exceptional service in areas such as crime detection, cybercrime investigation, traffic management, narcotics control and acts of bravery. Each awardee received a trophy, citation and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh.

Bharti emphasised that Mumbai’s disciplined citizens play a key role in maintaining law and order. He noted that residents actively support the police by reporting incidents promptly, effectively acting like “officers without uniforms,” which helps authorities respond quickly.

He also pointed out that simple civic habits, such as proper parking, can significantly reduce traffic congestion. Infrastructure developments like the Coastal Road have already improved travel, while upcoming underground tunnels are expected to further boost connectivity in the city.

On the technology front, Mumbai Police has strengthened its capabilities with modern equipment, improved vehicles and faster response systems. Addressing cybercrime challenges, Bharti revealed that nearly 400 people were rescued from fraudulent operations in Thailand, including around 100 individuals from Maharashtra.

He also raised concern over rising “digital arrest” scams targeting elderly citizens living alone. In response, Mumbai Police has visited nearly 3,000 such households, offering both safety guidance and emotional support through personal outreach.

Among its community initiatives, the “Police Didi” programme continues to educate children about personal safety, helping build trust between the police and young citizens.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Ram Gandhi, Mahendra K. Chouhan and Ajit Mangrulkar. Instituted in 2016, the awards recognise officers who go beyond their duties to serve the public, highlighting the challenges of maintaining order in a fast-paced and densely populated city like Mumbai.
