Nagpur Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Ex-Minister Ranjit Deshmukh In Cheque Bounce Case
Veteran Congress leader faces arrest order after repeated absence in an ₹11 lakh dishonour case, triggering political buzz in Vidarbha.
A Nagpur court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against former Maharashtra minister and senior Congress leader Ranjit Deshmukh in connection with a cheque dishonour case involving around ₹11 lakh.
According to reports, the warrant was issued after Deshmukh repeatedly failed to appear before the court despite summons being served in the matter. The case relates to an alleged financial dispute in which cheques issued towards payments did not clear, leading the complainant to approach the judiciary.
The complaint was filed by Atul Devgade through counsel Ibrahim Bakhsh. As per the complaint, directors of Percept Web Solution Limited allegedly purchased computer, internet and web-related materials from Devgade. Deshmukh, along with Pallavi Parekh and Amit Dhupe, has been named as directors of the company.
The complainant claimed that five cheques worth around ₹11.50 lakh were issued for these purchases, but none were honoured by the bank. Following repeated follow-ups and even a legal notice, Devgade moved court seeking action.
While the accused had earlier secured bail in the matter, the court noted that their presence was required as part of the pre-trial procedure. The judge reportedly took serious note of continued non-appearance and ordered the issuance of the NBW.
The development has sparked political discussion in Maharashtra, particularly in Vidarbha, given Deshmukh’s stature as a veteran leader and former Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president. He has also held multiple ministerial portfolios in the past and played a key organisational role in the region.
Congress leaders have not issued an official response so far, and it remains to be seen what legal and political steps Deshmukh will take next.
The case is expected to draw further attention in the coming days as the court proceedings continue.
