Late-night celebrations at a residential society in Nashik turned into panic and chaos when a malfunctioning lift suddenly gave way, leaving a young mother and three children injured. The incident has raised serious concerns about negligence and building safety standards.

The accident occurred in the Rahul Nagar area along Jail Road, at Para Avenue Society, where the Makwan family resides. According to residents, the lift had been making loud noises and showing signs of malfunction for the past couple of months. Multiple complaints were reportedly made to the developer, Kisan Pokhar, as well as the lift company, but no effective action was taken.

On Sunday (19th), the Makwan family had hosted relatives for the naming ceremony of Gauri Makwan’s three-month-old daughter, Tulja. After the function concluded, around 10:30 PM, Gauri went to the ground floor to see off guests. While she was there, her son Harshit (4), along with her nieces Vaibhavi (10) and Mansvi (4), came to inform her that the baby was crying upstairs.

Gauri then took the three children with her in the lift to return to their fourth-floor apartment. However, as the lift reached near the third floor, its wire rope suddenly snapped. Within moments, the lift plunged rapidly and crashed onto the ground floor with a loud impact.

The noise alerted other residents, who rushed to the spot and helped pull the injured out of the lift. All four were immediately taken to a private hospital for treatment.

Gauri Makwan sustained fractures in both ankles, while her son Harshit suffered a fracture in his right leg. Mansvi received injuries to her chest and leg, and Vaibhavi was hurt around her waist. All are currently undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, residents of the society filed a complaint at the Nashik Road Police Station against developer Kisan Pokhar and the lift company. The complaint alleges that poor-quality materials were used in the lift installation and that repeated warnings about its condition were ignored, ultimately leading to the accident.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Residents have also demanded strict action against those responsible, emphasizing that timely attention to earlier complaints could have prevented the mishap.
