The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Pune protested against the government for failure in providing central government schemes to the senior citizens as well as disabled people. The protest was held on January 30 outside Pune District Collector’s office.
Baramati MP Supriya Sule issued a warning to the central government during protest, stating that ‘if no administrative action is taken in the matter, stern action would be taken.’.

The Nationalist Congress Party has been pursuing with the Central Government to provide benefits to the elderly through (Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/ Fitting of Aids and Appliances) ADIP and Vayoshree Yojana for a number of months. Despite several petitions, no decision is made in this regard, and people who are disabled and senior citizens are not assisted.

A camp was held by the Union social justice ministry in the Pune district to identify eligible disabled persons and senior citizens to whom the scheme can be passed on. 1,00,000 senior citizens and over 10,000 disabled people were found to be eligible for the scheme. The camp was held between December 2021 to March 2022. More than 12 months have passed but the eligible people have not received the benefits yet.

“If there is no action taken in the next two days, we will appeal to the court for the rights of disabled and senior citizens; And even after that, if the demand is not fulfilled we would go on hunger strike, said Pradeep Deshmukh, NCP Spokesperson, Pune city.

Sule added that the scheme has purposely not been implemented in two Lok Sabha constituencies, Baramati and Shirur.
