New Year Crackdown: Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police Book 240 Drunk Drivers In Special Drive
Pimpri-Chinchwad, January 1, 2026: As part of a special enforcement drive conducted on December 31, 2025, ahead of New Year celebrations, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police took action against 240 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol across the city.
With large crowds celebrating the year-end and welcoming the New Year, incidents of drunk driving pose a serious threat to public safety and property. To prevent accidents and ensure road safety, the traffic police launched a focused campaign against motorists found driving in an intoxicated condition.
The special drive was carried out on the instructions of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaube and under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar and Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Awad. The operation was executed as per the directions of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vivek Patil.
Under the campaign, traffic teams from all 13 traffic divisions within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate set up checkpoints at 47 locations across the city. During these naka-bandis, police found 220 two-wheeler riders and 20 four-wheeler drivers driving after consuming alcohol. Cases under drunk driving provisions have been registered against all 240 offenders in court.
The traffic police have stated that similar special drives will continue in the coming days. Citizens have been urged to avoid drinking and driving to prevent accidents and legal action.
The appeal was issued by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police in the interest of public safety.
