Pune, June 2: Bund Garden Police successfully traced and rescued a one-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped from Pune Railway Station and arrested three accused within 16 hours of the incident.

According to police, the complainant, Shivani Amol Bhosale (21), a daily-wage labourer from Malthan in Shirur taluka of Pune district, arrived at Pune Railway Station with her one-year-old daughter, Lila Amol Bhosale, at around 6 pm on May 30 after a dispute with her husband.

With no relatives in Pune and no place to stay, Shivani and her daughter spent the night in the open area near the Datt Mandir in front of the railway station’s reservation office. At around 9:30 pm, Shivani woke up and discovered that her daughter was missing. Despite searching the station premises and surrounding areas, she could not locate the child and subsequently lodged a complaint at Bund Garden Police Station.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and launched an immediate search operation.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare directed the investigation and formed three separate teams to trace the abducted child. During the investigation, police examined more than 70 CCTV camera feeds from Pune Railway Station and nearby areas over a continuous 12-hour period.

The CCTV footage revealed two women and a man taking the child and later boarding the Panvel-Nanded-Panvel train from Platform No. 4. Acting on this lead, police dispatched teams to Daund and Kurduwadi railway stations.

A team comprising Assistant Police Inspector Abhijit Chougule, along with Police Constables Dnyaneshwar Bade and Manoj Bhokare, reached Daund Railway Station and located the suspects at around 2:25 pm on Sunday.

During questioning, the suspects identified themselves as Dupada Laxman Gaikwad (35), Radha Lucky Adivasi (20), and Lucky Sandip Adivasi (21), all residents of Sundarnagar in Jalna district.

Police said the trio confessed to taking the child from Pune Railway Station and were subsequently taken into custody. The rescued girl was safely recovered and reunited with her family.
