PCMC Launches ‘Dust-Free City’ Initiative From Plumeria Drive Society In Punawale
Pimpri, March 16, 2026: Residents of Plumeria Drive Society in Punawale participated in an awareness meeting on the ‘Dust-Free Pimpri-Chinchwad City’ campaign, where Ravi Landge, Mayor of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, urged citizens to actively support the initiative and help turn it into a people’s movement.
Addressing residents during the programme, Landge said the municipal corporation is implementing several measures to control dust pollution across the rapidly developing city of Pimpri-Chinchwad. However, he emphasised that the success of the campaign depends on the active cooperation of citizens, housing societies, commercial establishments and construction developers.
He noted that while large-scale development works are necessary for the city’s growth, they sometimes lead to increased dust levels. The administration is taking steps to mitigate the problem through proper planning and preventive measures, but public participation remains crucial.
“If citizens stay alert about cleanliness in their surroundings and work together with the administration, Pimpri-Chinchwad can become a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful city,” Landge said.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Opposition Leader Bhausaheb Bhoir, corporators Reshma Bhujbal and Kunal Vavhalkar, social activist Namdevrao Jadhav, along with several municipal officials, representatives of social organisations and local residents.
Civic officials present at the meeting included Additional City Engineer Sunil Bhagwani, Executive Engineers Sohan Nikam and Yogesh Alhat, and Assistant Health Officer Shriram Gaikwad.
During the discussion, participants suggested several measures to reduce dust pollution, including regular water sprinkling on roads, stricter controls at construction sites, more effective road-cleaning drives and greater public awareness on cleanliness.
Landge informed residents that the municipal corporation has already initiated steps such as mechanised sweeping on major roads, water spraying to control dust, installation of protective nets at construction sites, proper debris management and stricter enforcement of cleanliness norms in public spaces.
He reiterated that the civic administration remains committed to making Pimpri-Chinchwad cleaner, greener and dust-free with the support and participation of citizens.
Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar also highlighted the importance of citizen participation in urban cleanliness and environmental protection. Several social organisations present at the meeting expressed their willingness to support the municipal corporation’s initiatives.
During the programme, social activist Namdevrao Jadhav explained various activities planned under the Dust-Free Pimpri-Chinchwad campaign.
The event concluded with a street play titled “Awaken the People’s Movement – Save the Environment,” performed by Prithviraj Shinde and his team, delivering a message on environmental conservation, cleanliness and the role of citizens in creating a dust-free city.
