'People Want To Kill Me, Hurt My Family': Ranveer Allahbadia's Post Amid Backlash Over Sex Remark
YouTuber Moves Supreme Court to Club Multiple FIRs; Apologizes for ‘Lapse in Judgment’
Mumbai: YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia has alleged that he is receiving death threats and that people have attempted to intimidate his family amid backlash over his controversial remark. In a social media post on Saturday, he claimed that individuals had invaded his mother’s clinic posing as patients, leaving him feeling “scared” and uncertain about his safety.
“My team and I are cooperating with the police and all other authorities. I will follow due process and be available to all agencies. My remark about parents was insensitive and disrespectful. It is my moral responsibility to do better, and I am genuinely sorry,” he wrote on Instagram.
The controversy erupted after a video clip went viral in which Allahbadia, while appearing on comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent, asked a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?” The remark was widely criticized as crass and inappropriate, leading to multiple FIRs and complaints against him.
Apology and Legal Action
Acknowledging his mistake, Allahbadia apologized and admitted that the comment was in poor taste.
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry. Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform—obviously, this is not how I wish to use it,” he said.
He further clarified, “I personally had a lapse of judgment. It wasn’t cool on my part. The podcast is watched by people of all ages, and I don’t want to take that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect. I shouldn’t have said what I said. I’m sorry.”
Legal Proceedings and Police Action
Following the backlash, Allahbadia moved the Supreme Court, seeking to club all FIRs against him. He will be represented by senior lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud.
Meanwhile, police teams from Mumbai and Assam visited his residence on Friday but found the flat locked. Allahbadia had earlier requested the Khar police to record his statement at his home.
Despite the threats, the YouTuber asserted that he is not trying to evade authorities. “I have full faith in the police and the judicial system of India,” he stated.
The controversy continues to unfold as law enforcement agencies look into the complaints, while Allahbadia remains under public and legal scrutiny.
