Pune: On Thursday, the Petrol Dealers’ Association addressed a letter to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) expressing apprehension regarding the collection of Rs 2,000 notes at city pumps on September 30, which marks the final date for returning this currency note to the bank.

Ali Daruwali, spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) added, ”September 30, being a Saturday and a holiday, is the last day for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes. Due to consecutive holidays until October 2, we will not be able to deposit or have our notes accepted by banks on October 3.”

As per the information received, the RBI has not provided any indication regarding the status of unredeemed Rs 2,000 notes after the end of the month. Unlike the demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, Rs 2,000 notes will remain legal tender unless officially stated otherwise.
