Pimpri, December 10, 2025: In view of the rising number of fire incidents across Pimpri Chinchwad, the Fire Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appealed to citizens, housing societies, and commercial establishments to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations.

The department warned that storing unused materials or flammable items in staircases, corridors, terraces, and common areas significantly increases the risk of fire. Such obstructions can accelerate the spread of flames and smoke, making evacuation and rescue operations extremely difficult during emergencies.

Officials stressed that all unnecessary, combustible, or obstructive items must be removed immediately. If disposal is not possible, these should be stored safely outside the building. Blocked escape routes, smoke-filled passages, and delayed access for fire personnel have contributed to severe losses in several past incidents.

The Fire Department further urged citizens to maintain clean premises, ensure clear pathways, and keep emergency exits free of obstacles to prevent avoidable hazards.

Important Guidelines to Remember

• Remove all flammable, obstructive, or unused materials immediately.
• If disposal is not possible, store them safely outside the building.
• Do not block fire exits, staircases, corridors, terraces, or electric panel rooms.
• Ensure emergency routes remain clear for safe and quick evacuation.

“PCMC’s Fire Department is always committed to the city’s safety. Administrative efforts succeed only when citizens responsibly follow prescribed safety rules. A safe city requires collective participation. Alert and responsible citizens are the strongest pillars of urban safety.”
— Vijaykumar Khorate, Additional Commissioner, PCMC

“Firefighters risk their lives in every emergency. To help them respond swiftly and effectively, citizens must ensure that their surroundings are safe, open, and obstruction-free. Timely access and quick rescue operations can prevent major loss of life and property.”
— Venkatesh Durwas, Deputy Commissioner, PCMC

“Clutter and unused materials can pose serious dangers to any building. They block escape routes and reduce crucial evacuation time during emergencies. Keeping common areas clean and obstacle-free is a shared responsibility. Clear exits enable firefighters to reach the scene without delay.”
— Rishikant Chipade, Fire Officer, PCMC
