As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the Pimpri-Chinchwad traffic police have intensified their campaign against vehicles with black tinted glass.

A special enforcement operation was conducted from March 29 to April 4, resulting in the penalization of 3,435 motorists and the collection of fines totaling Rs 38 lakh.

This heightened enforcement effort extends into the Model Code of Conduct period, with authorities conducting rigorous vehicle inspections through targeted campaigns. Police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey and additional commissioner of police Vasant Pardeshi have been actively supervising these efforts, personally overseeing checkpoints to ensure their effectiveness.

The prevalence of tinted glass, particularly among local youth in the city area, remains a concern. Despite ongoing enforcement actions and fines, many vehicles still retain black film on their windows, obstructing visibility from the inside.

The use of black film on vehicle windows not only creates visibility issues but also poses security risks, as it can obscure the occupants and their activities within. This opacity has been exploited in various criminal activities, prompting a complete ban on the use of black film.

To deter offenders, the penalties for vehicles with tinted glass have been significantly increased, with repeat offenders facing triple fines of up to Rs 1,500. Traffic police personnel stationed at crucial intersections are equipped with cameras to capture evidence and issue fines, while machine-in-vehicle speed gun interceptors enforce penalties on highways.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vishal Gaikwad emphasized the potential risks associated with vehicles equipped with black film and urged citizens to comply with regulations and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
