PMC officials visit NIBM to understand the water supply issue at Cloud 9 and Raheja
Work on the 24 by 7 water scheme is going on in the area after which water will be supplied from Wadagaon’s new pumping station.
NIBM: Residents of Cloud 9 and Raheja area have been facing water crises for many years. As the water supplied by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is not sufficient, the housing societies have to bring water by tankers. Work on the 24 by 7 water scheme is going on in the area after which water will be supplied from Wadagaon’s new pumping station.
The water supply issue was raised by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on January 2 when the PMC officials had come on ground to understand the situation and give a solution for ensuring the smooth water supply in the area.
Rohan Gaikwad of MNS said, “Seven water tanks which have been built here are still empty. The nearby societies have to get water by tankers. Annually, they spend around ₹3 lakhs on water tankers and also pay water tax to PMC. But no PMC authority had ever come on the ground to understand the situation of residents. During the visit on January 2, PMC authorities have assured us to work on the water supply and said that they are also working on the 24 by 7 water scheme.”
“We have been facing water problems for the last many years. Although PMC officials gave a visit to understand the problem, we don’t think we will get any solution,” said the resident of Raheja.
Nandkishor Jagtap, project in-charge of the 24×7 water project and executive engineer, said, “We are working on war footing to make the water supply in this area smooth. Firstly, we will be working on the current water supply, by ensuring the correct water pressure. The 24 by 7 water scheme will be implemented in the area soon as its work is going on. However, it would take nearly 1 year for completion, as the line is of 18 km and 3 km line is still pending. Once the land acquisition process is completed, the pipeline work will also be completed. Thereafter, from Wadgoan water pumping station 24 by 7 water supply will be given to NIBM, Raheja and the surrounding areas.”
