Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a significant undertaking known as the Shallow Aquifer Recharge Management Programme within the city, recognizing the potential importance of groundwater in fulfilling the water requirements of residents. The project has been undertaken in Pune city under AMRUT and under the guidance of the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA).

As per the information, PMC has received funding of Rs 20 lakh for this project, which is insufficient for the entire conservation work. Therefore, only a few components of the pond conservation will be taken up initially and the work will be extended later as per the availability of funds.

As per the information received, sites that were considered for DPR include Harantale Lake in Lohegaon, the stepwell at Mohammadwadi, Dhayari Gaontal, the Uruli Devachi stream, and the Uttam Nagar APMC market ground.
