Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will erect a skyway on a pilot basis to connect the Hinjawadi Metro station with the IT Park for ease of metro travellers.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, PMRDA, said, “The skyway is a pilot project. The decision of erecting it has been done. Currently, we are in the planning part of the project. We hope that this project will be implemented soon. The length of the skyway will be around 2 to 2.5 kms which will connect Hinjawadi Metro Station to various companies of the IT Park in Hinjawadi. This will be very convenient for Metro travellers from IT Park as it will take very less time for commuters to reach the Hinjawadi Metro Station.”

Talking about the Shivajinagar-Maan-Hinjawadi Metro line work, Rinaj Pathan said “50% work of the Shivajinagar-Maan-Hinjawadi Metro line is done. We are sure that the entire Shivajinagar-Maan-Hinjawadi Metro line project will get completed till the proposed deadline i.e. March 2025.”

As per further information, PMRDA officials said that the authority has partnered with a private enterprise to build the skyway.

The plan calls for the development of a 2.5 km test track in the first phase. It will begin at the Hinjawadi Phase II circle and travel to Mannara Technologies via the MIDC hill service reservoir. After that, it will make a left turn on the circle and connect to a few more businesses.

According to PMRDA officials, the pilot project will involve building three passenger stations and an overpass-style string rail track structure.

The authority further stated that the entire skyway track, which is roughly 10 km long, will begin erection once safety approvals are received.

The private company will pay for the development in its entirety. When finishing the Hinjawadi-Wakad stretch, the emphasis is on last-mile connectivity to software companies in the IT hub.

Skyways will give Metro travellers of the IT companies direct access to the Metro.
