Police takes strict action on illegal food stalls at Rajgad Fort
On January 15 (Sunday), the Velha police removed illegal food vendors operating & encroaching space on Rajgad Fort.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ranjeet Pathare, Assistant Police Inspector, Velha Police Station said, “This operation of removing illegal food vendors began on Sunday from 9:30 am till evening on Rajgad Fort. We have taken action against 6 food vendors on Rajgad. As they were encroaching on space & proving as obstructions for tourists coming to Rajgad, action has been taken against them under Section 283 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Six cases have been registered against them. We have issued notices to these vendors & have strictly instructed them to not install their businesses here ever again.”
As per further information, the Velha police, along with the state archaeological department, raided & removed illegal vendors on Rajgad, a well-liked trekking destination, seizing food, stoves, cooking gas cylinders, and other items. About 60 km from Pune city, the officials said that notices had been sent to the vendors informing them that it is forbidden to cook or sell food on the fort. Furthermore, they claimed that the environmentally sensitive area is littered with trash, including non-biodegradable items.
Rajgad holds historical importance since it was the birthplace and final resting place of Rajaram I, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Furthermore, Shivaji Maharaj ruled from this fort. Situated approximately 4,514 feet above sea level, the fort attracts a large number of hikers and tourists, particularly on weekends.
