The ‘Air Quality Early Warning and Decision Support System for Pune,’ which was recently introduced by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), predicts that the quality of air in certain areas of Pune & Pimpri Chinchwad has declined as the air quality in Shivaji Nagar, Katraj and Hadapsar & areas of Wakad like Park Street, Bhumkar Chowk & Thergaon are predicted by the system to be poor. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Pune is 132 on February 3.  Experts predicted that shifting weather patterns would have an impact on the city’s air quality.

As per information from the official website of the Air Quality Early Warning and Decision Support System for Pune, on February 3, Shivaji Nagar’s AQI is 173, Katraj’s AQI is 176 & Hadapsar’s AQI is 134. In Pimpri Chinchwad, the AQI of Bhumkar Chowk on  February 3 is 272, the AQI of Park Street, Wakad is 214 & the AQI of Thergaon is 227.

A collaborative effort between C-DAC and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) funded by the Ministry of Earth Science’s National Supercomputing Mission led to the project “Air Quality Early Warning and Decision Support System.”

This improved project offers data on air quality for seven cities: Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Additionally, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) monitors six stations in Pune, whose air quality data are also included in the system.
