Pune: Assistant Police Inspector suspended due to ‘this’ reason
Bhalerao’s (Police Officer) foot accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal while he was resting inside the car, causing the vehicle to hit Shakuntala, a pedestrian in front, and a standing two-wheeler.
An assistant police officer identified as Nagesh Bhalerao has been suspended after a police car hit a two-wheeler and a pedestrian woman, causing serious injury to her and damaging the vehicle. The incident occurred at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi on June 4 at around 2:30 pm. It has also come to the fore that the officer had consumed alcohol.
Bhalerao is currently posted at the Hinjawadi Police Station. Shankutala Pandit Shelke, a resident of Mahalunge, was seriously injured in this accident and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
The counting of votes for the Maval Lok Sabha constituency took place at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, with the Pimpri-Chinchwad police force deployed. Bhalerao’s foot accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal while he was resting inside the car, causing the vehicle to hit Shakuntala, a pedestrian in front, and a standing two-wheeler that belonged to a youth.
Bhalerao was medically examined, and it was revealed that he had consumed alcohol before the incident. A case has been registered, and he was suspended promptly. An internal inquiry is also underway, according to Senior Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat.
