A banner targeting former Pune mayor Muralidhar Mohol has sparked controversy after it was found in front of the Pune Municipal Corporation. The banner, featuring the message ‘You were made Mayor, Chairman of the standing committee, General secretary of the party… What more do you want?’, adorned with the BJP’s Lotus symbol, was anonymously placed at the entrance of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

The origin of the banner remains unclear, and it was promptly removed by municipal security guards upon discovery.

The appearance of this banner has highlighted internal discord within the Pune BJP, with another banner against Muralidhar Mohol appearing near the Municipal Corporation premises. However, Mohol has refrained from commenting on the internal party dispute, opting to visit Shirdi to pay homage to Sai Baba instead.

In response to the banner controversy, BJP Pune President Dheeraj Ghate denounced the act as an attempt to disrupt the city’s atmosphere ahead of elections. He dismissed the banner as childish and stressed that such tactics do not influence candidate selection decisions. Ghate emphasized that such behavior does not align with the values of the Bharatiya Janata Party and speculated that the banner may have been erected by opposition forces.

He affirmed that an individual’s reputation cannot be tarnished by such means and reiterated that nomination decisions are solely the prerogative of party leaders, unaffected by such displays.
