C-DAC, the Center for Advanced Computing, has developed a groundbreaking solution tailored to the needs of farmers across the country, the SmartFarm system. This innovative smartphone-based technology aims to boost farmers’ income while optimizing watering and fertilization processes. After rigorous testing over two years with farmers in Kerala, where some reported a staggering tenfold increase in income, the system is now set to revolutionize agriculture nationwide.

The SmartFarm system operates via a mobile application and utilizes sensors strategically placed in fields, adapting to the specific geography of each farm. It harnesses the power of 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, ensuring connectivity even in remote areas. What sets SmartFarm apart is its cost-effectiveness and user-centric design, catering directly to the requirements of farmers.

One of the key features of SmartFarm is its ability to provide real-time information and guidance, empowering farmers to make informed decisions even when they are not actively engaged in farming activities. Furthermore, the system supports regional languages, making it accessible to a wider audience across diverse linguistic backgrounds.

The official launch of the SmartFarm system will coincide with C-DAC’s 37th anniversary celebration, taking place on Tuesday, April 9th. The event will be attended by esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Ashish Lele, Director of the National Chemical Laboratory, and E. Magesh, Director General of C-DAC.

This ambitious endeavor aims to advance quantum computing technology through projects such as building quantum simulators and supercomputers. With its unwavering commitment to innovation, C-DAC continues to drive progress and transformation across various sectors, including agriculture and computing.
