Residents of Kalyani Nagar have requested for urgent solution for the dried-up lawns in Joggers Park.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Janhavi Patankar, Resident of Kalyaninagar, said “It has been 3 weeks since no water is there for the lawns in Joggers Park. We got to know that the pipeline of recycled water, which comes from Koregaon Park, has been broken due to the bridge work going on, due to which the recycled water doesn’t reach Joggers Park. I have been following up about this. In morning time, several people walk barefoot on the lawns in Joggers Park. From July 2021, public movement has increased a lot in Kalyani Nagar. People here think that the lawns are very beautiful & of good-quality maintenance. So, they come to Joggers Park frequently, some come every day.”

Janhavi Patankar further said “A lot of senior citizens also come here for a walk. However, now, the grass & lawns have dried up. The land has also developed cracks. The Team Swachh Kalyaninagar (TSKN) group is actively following up regarding this. Now, let’s see how the PMC rectifies this issue.”

Sandeep Chavan, Horticulture Mistry, PMC Tree Department, said “The pipeline providing water to the park has burst. It is being repaired, but with the bridge construction, it is a problem. The waste treated water from Bhairoba Nala pumping station is used for Joggers Park. More than a lakh liters of water are used daily. And it’s active residents of KN who pushed for treated water to be used over 15 years ago.”

Sangram Kanmahale, PMC Garden Department Official, Kalyani Nagar, said “What has happened is that the water supply from Bhairoba Pumping Station in Koregaon Park, provided to the park, had been shut as they had cleaned the water tanks in the pumping station. As the water tanks have been cleaned & repaired now, water supply will be provided to the park from today evening or latest by tomorrow. There is no other source of water for the park. I have been following up for this water supply issue with the pumping station. They said that the last tank has also been cleaned & maintained, so from today, the tank will be filled up & the regular water supply for the park will begin from tomorrow.”
