A petition has been filed for seventy-six-year-old Army veteran Lt. Col. Suresh Patil, requesting his nomination in the Rajya Sabha under the category of social workers.

The petition is filed by pan India organisation Justice For Jawans, an Ex-Servicemen forum, which is situated in Pune.

Feroz Mulla, the petitioner, said, “We feel that there is a need for an Army veteran in Rajya Sabha, and Lt. Col. Patil is an apt candidate with qualities that make him an asset for the nation and a strong voice for ex-servicemen. We highly recommend his nomination as a befitting tribute to the Indian Army and its dedicated soldiers.”

The information was shared in a press conference held yesterday

The petition highlighted

  • Lt. Col. Suresh Patil’s commendable work in soil conservation, environment protection, and dam desilting, for which he has been awarded several national and international awards. His initiatives towards the environment led to the development of multiple bird sanctuaries and Nullah Parks in the country.
  • His involvement, along with that of the other public and farmers in the Green Thumb Environment Protection Group, saw the Khadakwasla Dam rejuvenated and de-silted.
  • His leadership during the Indo-Pak war and how, despite being wounded in enemy shelling, he continued his service till his retirement, where he experienced various encounters in the desert (Barmer), high altitude (Leh), and jungles of Assam.

Currently, there are 3 pan-India organisations set up by Lt. Col. Suresh Patil: Justice for Jawan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Muslim Bridge, and Green Thumb. All these organisations are aimed at the betterment of India.
