The demand for ice cream and cold drinks has increased as a result of the rising temperature. But beginning next month, a team from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA, Pune) will inspect juice bars, ice cream shops, and restaurants to make sure that premises are clean and no unhealthy food is being served to patrons.

Officials claim that in order to make a quick buck, the majority of food operators either adulterate or use inferior quality ingredients. Food safety officers have been instructed to verify this while on the drive.

According to a senior FDA Pune official, the vendors have already begun to see success in their business. The first step will be to inspect every ice factory in Pune and the surrounding areas to verify that all food safety and hygienic regulations are being followed and that potable water is used in the production and distribution of ice in the market.

Another senior FDA Pune official stated that, in addition to the small vendors, the city of Pune has more than 200 juice bars and ice cream shops.

The official went on to say that since blue ice was introduced for industrial use in 2018, the problem of food vendors using it for business purposes has all but disappeared. They have noticed, though, that vendors frequently sell ice candy, ice golas, juices, and sodas that are made with inferior ingredients in an effort to make a quick profit. To ensure that there is no food of inferior quality, all food inspectors have been asked to verify the hygienic practices, standards of cleanliness, and food safety at these locations.
