Pune: Hinjawadi IT Park Roads Demand Urgent Attention Amidst Traffic Woes
The roads in Hinjawadi’s IT Park are now known as ‘Pit Park’ due to the numerous potholes causing severe traffic jams and daily hardships for drivers. Instead of permanent solutions, only temporary fixes are being applied by government agencies, worsening the situation.
Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi houses major IT companies from around the world. With around 200 IT firms operating there and over three lakh employees, the park’s inadequate infrastructure and traffic congestion have recently become key issues. The pothole-ridden roads have led to severe traffic jams, with drivers often stuck for one to one and a half hours daily.
IT professionals working in the park frequently highlight the poor road conditions on social media. A journey of just 3 kilometers within the park can take over 30 minutes. The lack of proper sidewalks makes walking difficult, and cycling is nearly impossible. The poor road conditions are causing delays in reaching offices, leading many to question if IT companies can persuade the government to address the problem.
Construction work for the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro route is ongoing on some of these roads. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has sent a letter to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) regarding the dire state of the roads due to recent rains. MIDC has criticized PMRDA for not restoring the roads after the metro route was approved, urging immediate repairs to improve travel conditions for citizens.
