Employees of the Income Tax Department across the country, particularly those affiliated with the Chief Income Tax Commissioner’s Office and its associated branches, initiated a strike on Friday to voice their concerns and demands. The strike is being held in Pune as well.

The reason behind the strike is the introduction of the new recruitment rules proposed for the Office of the Superintendent (Pune), which the employees are strongly opposing. According to the new recruitment rules, the promotion period for the employees has been increased to 10 years. At present, the promotion period for the current employees is 3 years.

This change was met with resistance from various employee unions, who protested that such a shift would affect the progression In career and opportunities within the department.

In response to these grievances, employees across the country initiated protests, expressing their dissatisfaction towards the proposed changes. The employees therefore participated in the strike on Friday with the aim for their demands to be acknowledged. The protest held in Pune saw a significant turnout, with employees gathering in front of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax’s office for three consecutive days.

Sharad Murhe, the General Secretary of the Income Tax Employees Federation (Pune Division), highlighted the unified stance of the employees, stating their intention to address their demands.

As the standoff between the employees and the authorities persists, the decision is still pending.
