In Keshavnagar, Mundhwa area, the Mula-Mutha river had become green due to the large amount of water hyacinth in the riverbed. Apart from that, there was an increase in the incidents of mosquitoes and insects. After that, the municipal administration ordered the water hyacinth. After that, the water hyacinth has been removed.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Mangesh Dighe, Environmental Conservation Officer, PMC, said “The water hyacinth in Mula-Mutha river in Keshavnagar, till Mundhwa Jackwell area, has been removed. 3 fighter machines, 4 cranes, 2 motor boats, 2 boats & 15 workers were used for this operation.”

Along with the Kharadi riverbed, there is a big water hyacinth problem in Katraj, Pashan, Jambhulkar Lake and Mula Mutha river. A large amount of water hyacinth grows here every year. On behalf of the Municipal Corporation, the work of constructing a bridge in the riverbed is going on at Kalyaninagar.

Mosquito and insect infestation has increased in this area due to waterfowl. After inspecting all these conditions, PMC commissioner Vikram Kumar gave instructions to immediately remove water leaves using quadruple machinery. Accordingly, a large-scale campaign was launched to remove waterfowl from this area.
