Pune News: Alandi sees massive jump in Conjunctivitis cases ; 2300 cases reported

Pune: An astounding increase in the number of conjunctivitis cases in Alandi has raised concerns with more than 800 cases reported on July 21.
As per information from Pune Zilla Parishad authorities, a whooping 813 new conjunctivitis cases have been identified in Alandi on Friday alone, taking the total number of cases from 1560 till July 20 to 2373 cases on July 21.
Till 20th July, the following daily cases were there:
Monday (July 17th) – 450
Tuesday (July 18th) – 740
Wednesday (July 19th) – 210
Thursday (July 20th) – 160
Hence, to combat the ailment, an Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) alert has been issued. Along with it, door-to-door screening has been immediately implemented as part of the ring strategy for infection control and prevention.
As part of the rapid response to the outbreak, a special OPD has been established. Two teams of ophthalmologists have been appointed and campaigns regarding personal hygiene, hand washing and more have been launched.
