In an effort to address the issue of garbage accumulation in Pune, five grabber tractors have been made available to the Municipal Corporation. These tractors, entrusted with the task of lifting tree waste, aim to expedite the cleaning process. The inauguration of one such grabber tractor was carried out by Asha Raut, Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Department.

Pune faces the challenge of waste accumulation caused by various factors, including the uprooting of trees during the monsoon season. However, due to limited manpower, waste collection often takes a significant amount of time. This delay can result in foul odors and increased spread of diseases. The introduction of these technologically advanced tractors seeks to address these issues. Similar to JCB machines, the grabber tractors have the capability to lift tree branches and other debris up to a height of approximately fifteen feet before depositing them directly into the vehicle.

Each zone in Pune has been allocated one grabber tractor, significantly reducing the time required to complete the tasks that previously involved eight workers within just 5 to 10 minutes. As a result, the removal of tree branches and other wooden waste will be expedited. Additionally, the piles of garbage often harbor snakes and other pests, and pose a risk to transmission cables. The deployment of these tractors will help mitigate these risks as well.

With the introduction of the grabber tractors, Pune’s residents can look forward to a cleaner cityscape and a more efficient waste management system. The swift and effective removal of tree waste and other debris will contribute to maintaining a healthier and safer environment for all.
