Pune News: Forest Department Captures Leopard After Human Attacks in Junnar
In a significant breakthrough, the forest department has successfully trapped a male man-eating leopard from Tejewadi, Junnar. This development comes after the leopard claimed the life of 9-year-old Rupesh Tanhaji Jadhav in a gruesome attack earlier today.
The tragic incident occurred around 5 am when Rupesh, accompanied by his grandfather, visited a soybean field for morning rituals. The leopard, hiding in a nearby sugarcane field, launched a fatal attack. This heartbreaking event follows another leopard attack in April that claimed the life of a 3-year-old girl in Shiroli Budruk.
The dual tragedies within five months have sparked widespread fear and outrage among locals, pressing for permanent solutions to leopard attacks. The community demands greater safety measures to prevent such incidents.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Conservator of Forests Amol Satpute and Forest Range Officer Pradeep Chavan swiftly installed nine cages in the area. Chickens were used as bait, and their efforts paid off when the man-eating leopard fell into the trap around 7 pm.
The captured leopard has been shifted to a shelter in Manikdoh, where experts will closely monitor its aggressive behavior. This development brings hope to the traumatized community, seeking solace in the forest department’s prompt response.
The forest department’s swift action has alleviated some concerns, but residents remain vigilant, seeking long-term solutions to prevent leopard attacks.
