Against the backdrop of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, a Swachh Maharashtra Campaign has been organized in Maharashtra. In a meeting held on Thursday, Vijay Kumar Khorate, Additional Commissioner announced that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has actively taken part in the ‘Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward’ competition organized by the state government. As a result, all the regional officers are required to make the necessary preparations for the competition. 

As per a letter released by the Maharashtra Urban Development Department on September 15, 2023, the ‘Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward Competition 2023’ has been arranged at the ward level in the state’s municipal corporations from September 15 to December 15, 2023.

The important points for “Mukhyamantri Saksham Ward Competition – 2023” are as follows: 

  • Ward beautification, square beautification, construction of sculptures and doors
  • Door-to-door collection of 100 percent segregated waste
  • Cleaning of all roads, bins in the market premises, and garbage-free ward
  • Ban on plastic in the ward
  • Action on encroachments on major roads 
  • Property tax collection
  • Availability and management of public libraries
  • No hawkers in the ward
  • Public transport-rickshaws/rickshaws 
  • Fixed and proper monitoring of the bus stand
  • Public transport system: safe and covered bus stops
  • Availability of public toilets
  • Clean public toilets in marketplaces
  • Places of pilgrimage preserving the heritage site
  • The manhole covering on submerged drains is in good condition
  • Public gardens: monitoring local gardens; having toys for children and keeping them in good condition.
  • Maintenance and beautification of roads, direction signs, lane markings, street lights and CCTV arrangements should be implemented.
  • Home waste composting and bulk waste generator processing
  • Rainwater harvesting in housing complexes

The ‘Chief Minister Saksham Ward Competition 2023’ will be held at the state level, and after evaluation, the three wards with the highest points will be selected, and they will be given state-level prizes. 

All eligible cities will be required to participate in the competition.

The tournament is being held from September 15 to December 15, 2023.

The prize money for the civic local body in first position Rs 3 crore, Rs 2 crore for the second position, and Rs 1 crore for the third position.

Khorate informed the meeting that preparations are being made for this competition at the municipal level.

In the meeting, Health Chief Yashwant Dange, Regional Officer Suchita Pansare, Amit Pandit, Anna Bodde, Ankush Jadhav, Rajesh Agale, Umesh Dhakne, Health Executive Officer Ganesh Deshpande, Deputy Engineer Harvinder Singh Bansal, Public Relations Officer Prafful Puranik and Assistant Health Officer were present.
