The Yashavantrao Chavan bridge, which links Karve Road and Shastri Road close to Poona Hospital, is currently undergoing strengthening and repair work by the municipal body.

To prevent automobiles and auto rickshaws from entering the bridge, the civic administration has temporarily built barricades on both sides, allowing only two-wheelers to cross.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) stated that two wheelers were the only vehicles authorized to use the bridge. But in the past few months, there have been reports of cars breaking in. It has been decided to strictly forbid cars from using the bridge while the repairs are being done.

As advised by the bridge’s inspections conducted last year, the administration is replacing every bearing.

About 96 bearings are being replaced, according to a PMC official, as the majority are getting older. The bridge’s structure is completely secure. The capacity will be strengthened by replacing the bearings. It is anticipated that the work will be finished in the upcoming months.

According to a traveller, the PMC and traffic police need to come up with plans to clear traffic at the bridge area.
