In a bid to introduce cashless fee collection on Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses, the transportation agency has announced the introduction of a QR code-based system starting on Tuesday. This move has been long-awaited by commuters who have been seeking more convenient and efficient ways of paying their bus fares. A trial was taken yesterday which will be implemented on just one route at this moment to understand the difficulties.

The QR code-based system allows commuters to simply scan a QR code displayed on the bus using their mobile phones and pay their fare electronically. This not only saves time but also eliminates the need for cash, which can be a hassle for many commuters.

However, the transportation agency wants to ensure that the system is working smoothly and without any issues before fully implementing it. In order to achieve this, PMPML plans to observe how commuters react and respond to the new system during the initial phase of the rollout. This will help the agency determine whether any modifications or adjustments need to be made to the system.

The introduction of the QR code-based system is a significant step towards making PMPML buses more accessible and convenient for commuters. With the implementation of this new feature, passengers can enjoy a hassle-free travel experience and avoid the inconvenience of carrying cash.

“The system will be implemented in just one bus for now for a month. We will closely monitor how commuters use the QR code system and make any necessary improvements based on their feedback, ” said Omprakash Bakoria, PMPML, chairman and managing director.
