Pune News: Veteran Industrialist Omprakash Ranka Passes Away; Sadness Across City’s Business Community

Pune: Senior industrialist and socially conscious entrepreneur Omprakash Ranka, associated with Ranka Jewellers, passed away on Thursday night. He was 71. He is survived by his brother, son, two daughters, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Ranka was widely regarded as an influential and active figure in Pune’s business and social circles. As the current president of the Karve Road Traders Association, he consistently took a strong stand on issues affecting traders. He also actively contributed to religious activities as a trustee of the Dadawadi Temple Trust.

He was associated with several organizations, including Pune Panjarpol Trust, Ranka Research and Foundation, Shantinath Murtipujak Sangh (Pali), and Sadadi Sangh, through which he led multiple social initiatives. As president of JITO Pune, he played a key role in strengthening the Jain community’s organizational work and was currently serving as an advisor to JITO Apex. Additionally, he was a trustee of the Mahalaxmi Temple at Sarasbaug.

His contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic were particularly notable. He extended support to patients, distributed food supplies, and provided financial assistance to those in need, earning widespread respect across communities.

With his passing, Pune’s business, social, and religious sectors have lost a prominent figure, and tributes are pouring in from across various sections of society.
