Pune police naik Swapnil Garad climbs Ama Dablam in Nepal

Pune police constable Swapnil Garad climbed Mount Ama Dablam in Nepal and hoisted the Tri-colour flag. He took with him an idol of Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj and paid obeisance there.  He also raised slogans of Shiva Raya there.

Garad is also a cyclist who was the first Pune police Naik who has successfully climbed Hanuman Tibba.

Garad has completed his basic mountaineering course from NIM (Nehru Institute of Mountaineering), Uttarkashi in 2016 after which he studied in NIMAS ( National Institute of Mountaineering & Alliance Sports, Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh in 2018. Thereafter, he joined Maharashtra police force.

Speaking about his experience, Garad said, “I reached camp 1 on October 29, 2022 in the afternoon. After resting there for some time, I left for the climb at 9 pm on the same day. Going forward from Camp 2, the trek was becoming difficult as there was a mixed climbing route of ice and rocks. There was extreme cold and strong winds. We overcame challenges and reached the peak on October 30, 2022. Abhishek Gaikwad was also with me.”

Members of Pimpri Chinchwad Mountaineering Association and experienced mountaineers Surendra Shelke, Vinod Kambhoj guided them towards the Mount Ama Dablam which is at 6,812m height.
