Pune, June 1, 2026: Residents of Undri have finally received some relief as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started the long-awaited work to shift electric poles and lay underground cables at Kad Nagar Chowk. The pole shifting work will be over by mid June 2026. The work shall start by end of this week and after inspection from the electrical inspectors from the state government the work will finally be over.

The work began after years of follow-ups from Pune Pulse and repeated demands from citizen groups who had raised concerns about road safety and traffic movement in the area.

Officials from PMC’s electrical department have brought Ring Main Units to the site, and work is now underway to remove the poles between Palace Orchards Society and Kad Nagar Chowk. Once completed, the project will improve access to the underpass and elevated road connecting Kad Nagar and Dhruv School.

The issue had remained unresolved despite road widening work being completed in the area several years ago. Residents pointed out that while the road had been expanded, the overhead electric poles remained in place, creating safety hazards for motorists, pedestrians and schoolchildren.

Over the years, citizens repeatedly approached PMC and elected representatives, highlighting the risks posed by the poles and overhead cables at the busy junction. Along with Pune Pulse, Members of the Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF) consistently followed up on the matter, seeking a permanent solution.

Residents welcomed the commencement of the work, describing it as a much-needed step towards improving road safety and easing traffic movement in the rapidly growing locality.

“We are happy that the work has finally started after a long wait. This will make the junction safer and improve connectivity for thousands of residents who use this route every day,” said local resident Parveen Tambe.

The issue had also been reviewed during a site visit by former PMC Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne in 2023, who had assured residents that the matter would be resolved. However, progress remained slow until recently.

Residents and civic activists have expressed hope that PMC will now complete the project without further delays, bringing a long-pending infrastructure issue to a close and making the area safer for commuters and pedestrians alike.
