In Vimannagar near the Skating Rink on Symbiosis Road, a significant leak in a PMC water tank has left residents distressed due to the extensive wastage of water. Outraged citizens are calling for immediate intervention, expressing frustration over recurring water leakages in Vimannagar.

Shyam Kuddyady, a resident of Konark Campus, Vimannagar, voiced concerns, stating, “Water tanks in Vimannagar experience daily leaks, and the authorities seem indifferent. Today’s incident appears to be a result of a valve burst or pipe breach, causing an alarming amount of water to be wasted. Despite their claims of holding meetings to resolve the issue, nothing substantial is being done.”

Qaneez Sukhrani, a Pune citizen activist, alleged deliberate actions, saying, “Yesterday’s water meeting, mandated by a high court order, highlighted various problems. It seems there are individuals, possibly on contract, deliberately opening the valve of the PMC water tank, leading to pipeline leakage. Despite sufficient water stored in tanks, citizens face inadequate water supply, often with low pressure.”

In response to these claims, Nandkishor Jagtap, Chief Engineer of PMC Water Supply Department, countered, stating, “There was no leakage; the overflow pipe was choked. PMC workers had to cut the pipe to release the obstruction, allowing water to flow out between the tank and the pipe. In essence, maintenance was necessary to prevent choking and water overflow.”

Despite paying substantial property taxes, residents are compelled to resort to expensive water tankers to meet their water needs, further aggravating the frustration among Vimannagar citizens.
