Pune: Residents of Undri & Mohammadwadi have been worried about purchasing water tankers for the past several years as there seems to be no end to the water woes.

The residents of Undri have been struggling to get PMC water for the last one decade but there seems to be no efforts from the civic authorities to provide a basic facility of providing PMC water to the area.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Abhijeet Deshpande, a resident of Nyati Esteban, Undri said, “We have been staying in Nyati Esteban for the last 2 years. Since then, we have been purchasing water tankers only. There is no water supply from the PMC. We have to pay around 30% to 40% of the maintenance cost only to buy water tankers. Several complaints, requests etc. have been raised to the PMC but nothing has happened so far.”

Animesh Prasad, a resident of Godrej Horizon, Undri, said “We are spending around 30% of our maintenance cost only to purchase private water tankers. For water, we are completely dependent on tankers. No PMC water supply is there.”

Yezdi Mogal, secretary of Nyati Estate, Mohammadwadi said, “We have been sustaining water tankers for the last 20 years. The PMC water supply only comes for 2 hours but it is not at all enough. We have to spend a lot of money on purchasing water tankers which are not at all affordable. We have requested the PMC & other authorities to resolve this, but they only give fake assurances. Nothing concrete is done about it.”

Asif P, a resident of Park Majestique, Undri said, “Our half maintenance cost goes into paying for private water tankers. We really don’t know for how long we have to survive on water tankers. PMC doesn’t listen to us at all.”

Vijay Sonni, another resident of Nyati Esteban, Undri said, “It costs around Rs 750 per tanker for us to purchase water tankers. When will the PMC open its eyes to seriously look at this issue.”

Nanda Lonkar, ex-corporator of NIBM road said, “NIBM has become completely tanker free. For Undri, under the 24×7 water scheme, water pipeline work is going on by PMC after which people will get a seamless water supply.”

Pune Pulse tried to contact the relevant PMC Water Supply department official but couldn’t connect till the filing of this report.
