On Tuesday, the district administration lifted the ban on tourist spots in Maval and Mulshi areas, like Lonavla and Tamhini Ghat, due to political pressure and requests from local businesses impacted by the restrictions.

The sub-divisional officer initially set up bans until July 27. These bans were then prolonged indefinitely. Nevertheless, restrictions on accessing dangerous locations like Bhushi dam and remote waterfalls within the forest will remain in place.

“Even though we lifted the bans, the previous restriction preventing access to certain risky locations for two months during the monsoon remains valid. The bans for all tourist spots might be reinstated depending on the local circumstances,” stated Surendra Navale, the sub-divisional officer of Maval and Mulshi.

Earlier this week, shopkeepers and transport association members in Lonavla protested against the bans imposed by the district administration on tourists. Additionally, local MLA Sunil Shelke advocated for their demands with both the administration and state government officials.

At the same time, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) put out an orange alert for the ghat regions of Pune district from August 1 to 3.

Given the alert, Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh called for a review meeting and instructed civic officials to implement essential safety measures.

He also urged residents residing close to the Indrayani and Pavana rivers to move to shelter homes when the civic authorities issue such notifications.

The Pavana dam, which serves as the primary water source for Pimpri Chinchwad, is currently at 87.69% of its total capacity.
