The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced plans to launch a comprehensive drive to assess the fitness of school buses, beginning next month.

Recently, RTO inspectors seized a school bus that had been operating without a fitness certificate since 2015, near Navale Bridge. This incident underscores the urgency of ensuring that all school buses comply with safety regulations.

To address this issue, the RTO will conduct thorough inspections of school buses and review their documentation. Strict action will be taken against any transporter found to be in violation of regulations.

Sanjiv Bhor, Pune RTO, emphasized the importance of schools and transporters renewing their fitness certificates. Additionally, the RTO offices will extend their operating hours to include Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate this process.

In addition to checking the documentation, the RTO will also scrutinize the background and qualifications of drivers operating school buses. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students who rely on school transportation services.
