In an age of polarisation, one would rarely find anyone going out of their way, faiths and ideologies to weave and hold together the fraternal fabric of the country. Ikram Khan, the founder of a stellar social organisation by the name of Sarva Dharma Sambhav Trust has been working towards the cause of strengthening brotherhood among different communities and cementing communal harmony.

Recently, the trustees of the Hanuman Temple in Kalyani Nagar, Pune honoured him on the occasion of Ram Navami for his outstanding contribution to the same cause. Khan and his entire family have been on the frontline in helping out and tending to the devotees of the Hanuman temple and the temple itself for more than 5 decades. They have had an association with the temple for 4 generations. Their ardent acts of service have put a smile on the faces of countless people from both the Hindu and Muslim communities.

Apart from being a social worker, Khan is also a successful businessman and a keen golfer. He has played a key role in meticulously organising events promoting national unity for the past 20 years. A few moons ago, he had hosted an all community inclusive Iftar at the Sadal Baba Dargah in Yerawada. MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, up and coming entrepreneur Ahad Khan and the Warkari Sampradaya (religious community) were some of the prominent public personalities to attend the Iftar. The sampradaya performed bhakti chants and songs reinforcing the values of oneness and unity. Furthermore, after being invited by the higher management authorities in June 2011, he was offered a ā€˜Chaddar of Peaceā€™ at the Alandi Temple’s Sanctum Sanctorum.

Other felicitations bestowed upon him include accolades by the state and union governments for his contributions towards sports like hockey and golf and his efforts in fastening bonds of national unity and fraternity.

In addition to promoting love and harmony amongst communities, Khan and his trust also look after differently abled, destitute and critically ill individuals and have been doing so for the last 30 years.
