A new road is all set to be constructed from the university’s main entrance to the Vaikunth Mehta National Cooperative Management Institute (VAMNICOM) to decongest the Pune University Chowk. The proposal has been approved in the meeting of Pune Integrated Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA).

The 175 meter long and 6-meter-wide road will be constructed from Main gate to (VAMNICOM) inside the university. There is no alternative route for the vehicles coming from Pashan and Baner to the University Chowk. So, if an alternative route is given from the university to the vehicles coming from Aundh, the congestion in the square will be reduced to some extent.

“The municipal corporation had applied for authorization to use the university road for public use. Accordingly, permission has been granted,” said Dr. Prafulla Pawar, Registrar of SPPU.

“The university administration has given permission to construct a road inside the university. This was approved in the PUMTA meeting held on 2nd Feb. Accordingly, the road work will be started immediately after inspection, It will take 15 days to complete the work,” said V G Kulkarni, chief engineer, Road Department PMC.
