Residents of Mohammadwadi and Undri, comprising a diverse community including retired armed forces personnel, IAS, IPS, and IFS officers, IT professionals, multinational employees, and entrepreneurs, are seeking immediate action on unresolved issues affecting their neighborhoods. With over 25,000 housing flats and a population exceeding 150,000, the area is in critical need of infrastructure upgrades.

Troubled by the negligence and ignorant approach by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the residents are now planning to file an RTI with PMC to understand the infrastructure plan for Undri, a newly merged village and Mohammadwadi, an already existing village in PMC since 1997.

Members of the Mohammadwadi – Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation, a registered body under the Companies Act have been raising various issues through many social media platforms bringing the attention of the administration over the issues faced by the residents.

Key issues that need prompt attention include:

– Development Plan for Mohammadwadi & Undri:

  • The Development Plan (DP) for these areas has yet to be finalized by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the State Government. An urgent implementation is required to address infrastructural gaps.

    – Water Supply: The current reliance on tanker water is unsustainable. Expediting the installation of a permanent PMC water line is essential for a reliable and affordable water supply.
  • – Sewerage and Drainage: The lack of proper sewerage and drainage systems is causing significant hardship. Immediate installation is necessary to prevent recurring waste pumping costs and inconveniences.
  • – Integration of Private Roads: Surrounding private roads should be brought under PMC jurisdiction to ensure proper maintenance and accessibility.
  • – Property Taxes: There is a need to reassess property taxes to reflect the actual services provided. Residents are paying high taxes without corresponding benefits.

Despite these issues, approximately 3,000 additional dwellings are being constructed in the area and many more in the adjoining neighbourhood.

Residents are calling for:

  • – Water Pipeline and Large Tanks:Expedite water pipeline work and build large tanks in the amenities space.

    – Sewerage Lines: Install sewerage lines as many societies are using septic tanks or under-capacity STP systems.
  • – Road Maintenance:Take over and maintain public roads properly.
  • – Street Lights:Install street lights to enhance security at night.
  • – Developer Accountability: Ensure developers provide adequate solutions for water and sewerage before granting construction permissions, to avoid additional expenses for residents.
