A case was filed against 50 members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) by the Chatushrungi police late on Sunday for organizing a protest without getting permission from the police and marching from the Chatushrungi temple to the main gate of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

Members of the ABVP wrote to the Pune university administration on Sunday afternoon, demanding that strict action must be taken against the professor and students for “objectionable dialogues” in an experimental play.

They also called for action against the students who assaulted members of the ABVP during their protest on Friday night in Lalit Kala Kendra of Pune university.

A seven-person fact-finding committee led by a retired district judge had been established by the university to look into the matter &, based on the committee’s report, a case pertaining to Friday’s events at Lalit Kala Kendra was expected to be registered.

A senior police officer at the Chatushrungi police station stated that because the ABVP members did not follow the instructions to refrain from taking out the morcha, the police has filed a case under section 135 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
