Pune Vidhan Sabha Polls 2024: Ex-IAS Officer Sambhaji Zende Aims To Bring Change In Purandar-Haveli Assembly
The Purandar-Haveli Assembly Constituency, encompassing both urban and rural areas of Pune district, is set for a competitive election with prominent candidates such as sitting MLA Sanjay Jagtap of the Indian National Congress and Shiv Sena’s (Eknath Shinde faction) Ex-Water Resources, Water Conservation, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Government of Maharashtra Vijay Shivtare. Now, adding to the competition, retired IAS officer Sambhaji Sadashiv (Anna) Zende is contesting as a candidate of Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), MahaYuti and alliance.
Zende, a resident of Dive village in Purandar Taluka, has deep roots in the community. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from Pune’s College of Agriculture and an M.Sc. in Agriculture from Rahuri Agricultural University. After starting his career in 1980 as a Deputy Collector in Nashik, he joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1993, where he led significant social and development initiatives across Maharashtra.
Following his retirement, Zende continued to serve the people of Purandar-Haveli through various local projects. His contributions include securing funds for the four-lane Hadapsar-Zendewadi pilgrimage route, roadwork completion from Bopdev Ghat to Askarwadi, and constructing an ashram in Pandharpur for pilgrims. His commitment to community development has positioned him as a dedicated advocate for local welfare.
Standing in the 2024 Assembly Election, Zende aims to address the issues faced by residents and foster growth across Purandar-Haveli.
