As seen in the footage, the man and his wife are standing in a checkout queue when another person requests him to speak Marathi. In response, he firmly states, “Nahi bolte” (I won’t speak). As tensions rise, he adds, “Social media pe dalo… ye galat tarika hai tumhara…” (Post it on social media… this is wrong). A brief scuffle follows before bystanders intervene. He also asserts, “Mere se bina puche ye video nahi bana sakta” (He cannot record me without my consent).
The video has sparked mixed reactions online. Some argue that those residing in Maharashtra should speak Marathi, while others defend the right to communicate in a language they are comfortable with.
This incident follows a similar controversy a few months ago when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers attacked an Airtel manager in Pune’s Wakadewadi. The dispute arose after reports that employees were being forced to speak Hindi at work, with Marathi-speaking staff allegedly facing job threats, unpaid salaries, and denied festival holidays. The MNS intervened after employees raised complaints, leading to an altercation at the Airtel office.
The latest video has reignited the debate over language use in Maharashtra.
